Nepal Earthquake Relief

Event: Food fair at Lak Medura.
Achievement: Raised NZ$3,000 for earthquake victims.

Abhimansala – Ranaviru Rehabilitation Centre

A new Abhimansala (Ranaviru Rehabilitation Centre) has been built in the Kurunegala District, housing 50 more disabled soldiers.
With various fund raising projects and donations, USLA managed to raise NZ$6900.00 towards medical equipment for the Centre.
Many Sri Lankans made significant contributions to the fund. The money raised was officially handed over to the Army Commander, Lieutenant General l Daya Ratnayke by Dr Ranatunga Kalupahana in October 2013.

Mihindu Seth Sevana, Attidiya

Mihindu Seth Sevana, Attidiya (Ranaviru Rehabilitation Centre) – NZ$5,000 was donated in 2011.

Ranaviru Rehabilitation Centre, Ragama

Ranaviru Rehabilitation Centre, Ragama – NZ$15,000 was donated in 2009.

Pakistan Flood Relief

Event: Food fair at Lak Medura.
Outcome: NZ$4,000 donated to the High Commission of Pakistan in New Zealand.

Tsunami Relief Effort

USLA fund-raised nearly NZ$250,000, Amassed a total of NZ$500,000 (including NZ$250,000 kindly donated by the NZ Government’s “dollar for dollar scheme”). Part of these funds was sent to Sri Lanka to be used for medical needs, water purification, and sanitation. The balance of the funds was used to build 60 houses in Wenamulla to take the place of the houses that were completely destroyed by the Tsunami.

UNICEF – Sri Lanka

Donation: NZ$80,000 to support child welfare initiatives.

Sarvodaya – Wenamulla Housing Project

Donation: NZ$400,000 for Wenamulla housing project.
